The resort of Les Arcs has only once staged the finish of a professional cycling road race. However the public will be hard pushed to forget the spectacular collapse of Miguel Indurain over the final kilometres of the climb of the 7th stage of the 1996 Tour de France won here by the Frenchman Luc Leblanc. This 6th July, marked by heavy downpours, effectively precipitated the end of the career of the 5-times winner of the Tour de France.
Superb views over Mont Blanc reward those who make it to Les Arcs.
